A new system of domestic cookery : founded upon principles of economy and adapted to the use of private families. By a Lady. Sixty Fourth edition. Remodelled and improved by the addition of nearly One Thousand entirely new receipts, suited to the present advanced state of the art of cookery
London: John Murray, Albemarle Street, 1840. Thick small octavo, liv, 571 pages. [10] leaves of plates. Originally printed in late 1805 but dated forward to 1806. The book went through dozens of printings, and was one of the most profitable books published by Murray. The author originally intended the book for use by her daughters, and borrowed a good number of the recipes in the original edition from her ancestor, Mary Kettilby. This has been called the "earliest manual of household management with any pretensions to completeness, it called forth many imitations." (DNB). Small abrasions to edges of publisher's gilt and blind-stamped dark green cloth. [not in Attar or Cagle].
