Attractive nineteenth century tree calf, with decorative gilt borders to boards, raised bands, with gilt-stamped leather title-label and elaborate gilt decorations to spine. Marbled endpapers, frontis portrait and numerous tables throughout. The present work comprises a translation of the "Tabulae primi mobilis cum thesibus et canonibus" (1657) along with relevant sections of the "Quaestionum physiomathematicarum libri tres" (1647) by Placidus de Titis. de Titis (otherwise Placido de Titi / Titus, pseudonym Didacus Prittus Pelusiensis, 1603–1668) was an Olivetan monk and Professor at the University of Pavia was one of the last great defenders of astrology in the latter half of the seventeenth century, and a vocal advocate of what is now known as the "Placidian system" in modern astrology. This is the first publication of the Cooper translation. It is undated, with estimates of the year of publication ranging from 1815 - 1820. (Caillet, 10734). Corners and spine edges lightly rubbed, hinges slightly tender but holding nicely, endpapers lightly toned, very light scattered foxing, otherwise a sound attractively bound better than VG copy.
