Piscatorial Reminiscences and Gleanings by An Old Angler and Bibliopolist. To which is added A Catalogue of Books on Angling
London: William Pickering, 1836. First edition. Tipped in at front free endpaper is a separately printed, folding "Table of the Approximate Weights of Fish according to their Lengths ... by Joseph Gwilt, sold by Eaton of Crooked Lane". Lithographic frontispiece and numerous vignettes. vii, 255, [40] pp. 1 vols. 12mo. Original green cloth, printed spine label (dated 1836). Some rubbing at spine ends, label somewhat rubbed and soiled. Very good plus. The Birth of Angling Bibliography More "the result of paste and scissors" (Westwood & Satchell) than a coherent text, but redeemed by the groundbreaking bibliography of angling books prepared by Pickering, who states in the Catalogue that it "is formed upon Sir Henry Ellis's corrected copy of the list, which he contributed to the British Bibliographer in 1811, and which he kindly lent for the purpose.".
