With the Connaught Rangers in Quarters, Camp, and on Leave.
London: Hurst and Blackett, 1883 - Octavo. Original green cloth, title gilt to the spine, regimental badge embossed and gilt to the upper board within an elaborate blind panel, similar panel to the lower board, dun surface-paper endpapers. Just a little rubbed at the extremities, hinges slightly cracked but tight, light browning, foxing front and back, but overall a very good copy. Steel-engraved frontispuece, title page printed in red and black with large steel-engraved vignette of the regimental badge. First edition. Sprightly memoir of three decades of service with the 88th. Includes the Crimea, but largely relating to India with the briefest of possible mentions of the Mutiny. Posthumous bookplate of the Comte de Chambord verso of the front free endpaper, later collector's plate to the front pastedown. Decidedly uncommon, just 6 copies on Copac - BL, NLS, NLW, Oxford, Cambridge, and London Library.
