London, Sampson Low, Marston, Low, and Searle, 1874.. FIRST EDITION 1874. VOLUME 4 ONLY of a 4 volume set. Folio, approximately 485 x 355 mm, 19 x 14 inches, 24 large collotype photographic plates with guards showing 57 images, 11 full page, the rest with several images, pages: title page, list of illustrations and 39 pages of explanatory text with decorated initials and headpieces, handsomely rebound, maroon morocco spine with gilt lettering and decoration, matching cloth covers with dividing gilt floral bands, the gilt decorated part of the cover of the original cloth binding inset on upper cover, all edges gilt. Title page has pale foxing to top and outer margins, a little pale foxing to some margins mostly affecting the text and blank side of plates, occasional fingermark to margins, otherwise a very good handsome copy.
