Reports of Explorations and Surveys, to Ascertain the Most Practicable and Economical Route for a Railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean... Volume XI [11]. Senate Document, 36th Congress, 2nd Session
Washington, DC: George W. Bowman. 1861. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. F First Edition. H Hard Cover. Fair. First edition, 1861. Volume 11, Senate issue - the volume that contains the maps, profiles and plates. All are present, condition varies. Brown blindstamped cloth, 11.75" tall, 2.5" thick. Covers heavily rubbed and chipped, spine covering detached but present with some chipping, text block sound, text pages quite heavily foxed, some foxing to plates, mainly in margins. Four folding plates have been bound in upside down, the result of which is that they cannot be opened without creating small holes in the center of the folds, as evidenced by the Humbolt map, which has been opened. All maps have some darkening at the folds and all have closed tears, mainly at the fold lines, some occasional foxing but mainly age- darkening. The general map, in color, is a very large size and is only in fair condition with numerous closed tears along the fold lines and a 1" x 2" chip near the center. Essentially a reading copy and priced accordingly.
