Barnabae Itinerarium, or, Barnabee's Journal
London - Reeves and Turner, 1876 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. A smart, finely bound edition of Braithwaite's famous satire. Bound in half leather with gilt lettering and decoration. A New Edition Carefully Revised by W. Carew Hazlitt. This text is in English and Latin. With A Life of the Author, A Bibliographical Introduction to the Itinerary and a Catalogue of his Works. With Four Plates. This didactic and satirical text describes four journeys between Kendal (Brathwaite's home) and London. The route taken is different in each instance. It is a remarkable example of the trend for topographical writings in the 1630s, but in its rollicking style it also prefigures some of the picaresque novels of the eighteenth century. (DNB)Joseph Haslewood, 1769 - 1833, was an English bibliographer and antiquary. William Carew Hazlitt, 1834 - 1913, was an Englishbibliographer. Condition: The binding is tight and firm. There is slight wear to the extremities, including slight rubbing andfading, prominent to the spine. Internally the pageshave very slight browning, with light spots throughout. Overall the condition isnear fine..
