E. P. Dutton & Company, Inc., New York 1946 - SIGNED EDITION. This book is in Very Good+ condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. There is some beginning bumping and wear to the spine ends. The text pages are clean and bright. The endpapers have some beginning toning and a couple of bits of foxing. This copy has been signed and dated by the author on the half title page. The dust jacket is mostly clean and bright but does have some light edge wear, nicking and rubbing to the spine end, edges and flap joints. Ther rear cover of the dust jacket has some ground-in dirt. This is the author's first book of fiction (preceded by 1963's Rocking the Boat, a book of essays. Supposedly, the book was written during his stint in the Army, while he was based in the Aleutian Islands on a supply ship when he was just 19 years old. ; Signed by Author [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
