Lacks the endpapers if it had them, title page browned and chipped and soiled at the edges. Tear to the corner of the dedication with a loss of text on both sides and to the corner of the final page with a loss of text, a few small tears with no loss of paper or text. Good otherwise, and complete. 215pp. Campbell, born in Scotland ca. 1681, immigrated to the U.S. in 1717, ordained in Worcester, MA in 1721 and moved to Oxford, MA shortly thereafter. As the Great Awakening spread through the area, Campbell, who had less than no sympathy with the movement, published this collection. It stands as an important, and scarce, shot fired in the Great Awakening. "Suffer me l beseech you who are the weakest and most unworthy in the Sacred Order of the Ministry to intreat both Ministers and People of the New Scheme to desist from invading the Provinces and Districts of their Fellow Laborers and Brethren".
