New York, NY: Harcourt, Brace, and Company, 1940. First Edition, First Printing 1st Printing. Hardcover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Stegner's third novel about a WWI veteran on the high plains of Saskatchewan. In dark teal cloth clamshell box. Inscribed to previous owner on half title page. Cloth boards are rubbed along edges, spine at slant, some spotting on edges of text block. Endpapers are somewhat foxed, a few stray pencil marks here and there, otherwise interior is clean. Mylar-wrapped dust jacket has not been price-clipped; edges are chipped in places, overall mildly soiled, rear has a tape repair and appears a bit wavy.
