Yangtze River - Two Chinese illustrated blockbooks dating around 1910.
. One blockbook in folio with 61 double leaves of text and 25 woodblock plates (32.5 x 24.1 cm) depicting flowers, trees, blossoms. The other blockbook in oblong 4to with 7 double leaved text pages and 53 woodblock prints depicting this famous Chinese river Yangtze with its shores, ships and landscapes. In original blue sewn covers. The folio-sized book has new brown paper covers.* A fine set of the views and natural history of the Yangtze river. As far we could track the title translates as follows: "Sanxia, the 3 gorges of the Yangtze". The views are very fine and it seems that the oblong booklet tries to give a complete view of the shores of the river, from its origins to the sea. The botanical atlas has a large text section which is followed by the plates, each showing 4 figures of plants, trees and fruit found alongside the river. Very good copies, some scattered foxing in the oblong volume, last pages of the folio volume with some yellow staining. Rare..
