2 engraved maps sheets (of 4), (Copenhagen 1779). Engraved by Ole Nielsen Flint after compilations made by Peter Falck. 55x132 cm. In late 19th century silver-painted frame. Paper somewhat browned.. Bibl. Dan. II, 390. Ehrencron-Müller III,12. ** Very rare. The lower half of a Danish wall map, compiled by Peter Falck (1730-80) who was professor in mathematics at The Copenhagen University, and engraved by Ole Niels Flint (1739-1808). Both served the Danish navy, Falck as teacher for the cadets, Flint as engraver. Falck's position as a teacher is clearly reflected in the immense amount of details and information to be found within the atlas.*** The image represents the lower half of the entity, with the southern hemisphere in the center with an outer circular composition of smaller maps and views. Denmark plays a central role in the composition: A general map, maps of different provinces along with views of Elsinore, Copenhagen and the royal palace of Christiansborg. Among the larger-scale maps is a detailed map of Iceland, a maps of Europe and Asia including a faint impression of Australia, and a map of the American continents. The geographical composition is framed by coats-of-arms of and information about different European monarchs. An impressive and most decorative piece
