Inner Mongolia, Northern China, the Philippines, 1904. Belgium, Mongolia, Philippines, China: 1904-1923. Archive of 60 manuscript signed letters by CICM Belgian missionary Frère Maurice Lefebvre, who was in Central Mongolia, the Philippines, then the Shanxi province of northern China, accompanied by the recipient's manuscript log of correspondence as well as a list of items sent to him overseas. Also with a few letters from Lefebvre's nieces Hyacinthe and Hélène. All text is in French. 8vo. Mostly double leafs, over 300 pages combined, each signed 'Maurice' and written in a legible hand, featuring occasional in-text sketch diagrams, the lot neatly chronologically organized and in very good condition. Together with a few items of ephemera, correspondence to the missionary on CICM stationery from a missions house in Mongolia and in China, an original sepia photograph and greeting card from China, a manuscript menu card, and 3 newspaper clippings. Age-toning to photograph and tear to mount, otherwise ephemera are in very good condition. KADOC, a Documentation and Research centre for Religion, Culture and Society, part of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Catholic University of Leuven) in Belgium, holds later letters of Lefebvre, from 1913 into the 1920s, otherwise collections from these missions are exceedingly scarce. .
