M. Carey & Son,, Philadelphia: 1817 - Carey, beginning his career in 1785, was a monumental figure in the early history of US publishing. to quote Tebbel, "Carey accomplished so many noteworthy things that it is difficult to choose which to mention. . Carey's influence on publishing history went beyond his list, however. His success as a bookseller, his efforts to organize the trade and to improve the distribution of books, were as notable as what he published." [Tebbel, HISTORY v1, pp. 106 - 109]. Carey took his son, Henry Charles, into business with him in 1817, so this a very early trade catalogue from one of the premier publishing firms of the early 19th C. Rare. Some dust soiling & age toning. Very Good. Publisher's printed self wrappers, sewn. Disbound, lacking other wrappers? 12mo. 7-3/4" x 4-3/8". 1st printing thus (cf.
