The Hobart Town Directory, and General Guide [1852-3]
Hobart Town: Printed and published by J. Moore. [1852]. Published by Authority. Narrow 8vo. 164pp (143-64 advertisements), folding plan of 'The City of Hobart -Town A.D. 1852' as frontis. Brown cloth, title-label on the upper board: 'Hobart Town Directory and General Guide 1852-3. Price five shillings'. The cloth is a little soiled with some light fading, an owner has written 'Directory - Hobart' in ink on the spine; the label has a couple of light marks but is complete an unobscured. The text pages are clean, some foxing to the endpapers, the map undamaged but with some foxing. There is a small hole burnt through the leaf pp25-6 obscuring a few letters on each page, without loss of legibility. The binding is intact although the stitching between some signatures is now somewhat loose. A good clean copy. ***Ferguson 10464. The date in the title appears on the cover label but not the title-page, although the publisher's note is dated 1st July 1852. This is a very scarce item, especially so complete. The copies sold at the Craig (1975) and Evans (1989) sales both lacked two leaves. .
