Études Phycologiques. Analyses d'Algues Marines... publiées par les soins de M. le Dr Édouard Bornet. Ouvrage accompagné de cinquante planches gravées d'après les desssins de M. Alfred Riocreux.
Paris, G. Masson, 1878. Folio (443 x 310 mm). pp (6), iii, 105, with 51 engraved plates. Recent black half calf, spine with gilt lines and lettering, marbled sides. A scarce work on algae published in an edition of 200 copies only. Gustave Adolphe Thuret (1817-1875) was a French phycologist of private means. "Thuret , upon his death, left 40 plates intended for a comprehensive illustrated work on the sexuality of the algae, a summary of a lifetime of research. Bornet supplied the other plates that were still wanting and provided the text, partly on the basis of earlier publications and manuscript notes by Thuret, but the major part written by himself. The plates were drawn by Alfred Riocreux and engraved by Picart" (Stafleu & Cowan). The plates are of an extraordinary quality and belong to the very best ever made on this subject. First few leaves with faint marginal waterstain and last plate with some staining at the outer margin.//Stafleu & Cowan 14.441; Nissen BBI, 1961.
