Lady Chatterley's Lover
Florence: privately printed,, 1928. Quarto. Original brown paper boards with printed spine label and Lawrence phoenix blocked in black to front board, top edge rough-trimmed, others untrimmed, partly unopened. With the unprinted dust jacket. Housed in a brown quarter morocco solander box with titles to spine in gilt and brown cloth sides ruled in gilt. Hairline split to front joint neatly repaired, front board with one faint finger mark and light bump to bottom corner, slight staining from binder's glue to bottom edge of free endpapers and last leaf, else contents crisp. One of the most famous and controversial publications of the century, its first appearance was abroad for fear of prosecution in England.
