Oxford: William Jackson,, 1764. In Two Parts. 2 volumes, quarto (274 × 206 mm). Contemporary half calf, red morocco label, spine lettered in gilt with raised bands, marbled sides, red speckled edges. Housed in a custom purple slipcase. Frontispiece and folding genealogical table. 2 armorial bookplates, one to the front pastedown and one to the first blank. Binding rubbed, headcaps worn, joint of volume I tender. Internally fine, overall a very good set. First edition of Phillips' hagiographic portrait of the English cardinal and last Catholic Archbishop of Canterbury, holding the office during the Counter Reformation. With a contemporary twenty line holograph critical inscription on the front free endpaper.
