Edges of spine and boards rubbed. Gutters split at hinges. 5" tear to rear free endpaper. The blank fore-margin of the panoramic plate of Kashmir is chipped and browned. Some spots of foxing to the panoramic plate of Le. 2/3" tear in one of the plates. 1/2" dampstains to head margins of 4 of the plates. 1/4" tear to margin of one leaf (pp. 191-192) . Text block in good condition. ; Iv, 367 pages + folding frontis map + 2 large folding coloured panoramic plates + 10 coloured plates + numerous in-text illustrations. Contemporary quarter leather binding. Red leather spine label "Torrens' Travels". The first panoramic sketch is of the Kashmir Valley. The second panorama is of "Le, from the palace on the left, to the valley of the Indus on the right". The other 10 plates are titled: Buddhist Monastery Near Le; Village of Kardong, Lahoul; Moravian Mission House, Kyelang; Pass of Bara Lacha; Buddhist Monastery, "Gya", Ladak; Village of Busqo, Ladak; Bridge over the Indus, Ladak; Scene on the march between Kerboo and Sergol; Henasko; View, looking up the Suru River. Owner's signature "H Masters 8. 7. 12" on title page. A lively account with many comments on the local inhabitants. "We rest awhile on its bank, and talk very pluckily about bathing, but without the slightest intention of committing any such imprudence. Another half-hour's walk brought us to the summit of the pass, sixteen thousand five hundred feet."; 8vo .
