Akai fusen, arui wa mesuokami no yoru / Red Balloon or Night of the She Wolf
[Tokyo: Hanzaisha Domei, 1963]. Inelegant if unobtrusive partial removal of bookseller's label on the rear pastedown, else near fine in quarter linen boards over cloth (lightly faded at the spine), publisher's illustrated card slipcase (bit soiled). Cool book.. First Edition. Small square quarto in slipcase. Published by The Criminal League under the auspices of the Hi Red Center, and notable, historically, for Genpei Akasegawa's manipulated images of the rear of the 1000 yen note, opposite a photograph of a smiling Prime Minister Ikeda, with the Hi Red Center's signature red exclamation point embedded in the image. This montage aroused the ire of the police, who were intent on invoking 19th century laws regarding currency. An artists' book of the highest caliber, with other illustrations, photographs, text, and 3 translucent prints (red, blue, and green) laid in. The photographs were taken by Yasuhiro Yoshiyoka, erotic in theme, and presage later work by Hosoe and Tetsuya Ichimura (Salome). Rare, with no citations in OCLC. The first copy I have seen, handled, or heard of.
