[1859],stamped gilt decorative green cloth with paste-on oval color plates to both boards, titling to spine, beveled edges, all edges gilt, illustrated, 225 pp. + 2 p. ads [The Scarlet Letter]. First Edition. Rare. Illustrated by Birket Foster, John Leech, Noel Humphreys, James Danby, Harrison Weir, et al. An early novel of Greenwood's, revised from an earlier version published in Tait's Edinburgh Magazine [1855]. This, undated, but known to be 1859. Condition VG- with light to moderate edgewear, more so the bottom edges, corners worn, slightly rounded and slightly softened, spine ends worn through and chipped, spine lightly tanned. Otherwise good externally (see photos enlarged). Internally sound aside from inner hinges sprung and lacking ffep. Small label to rear pastedown 'Bone & Son, 76, Fleet Street, London' and cursive 'W' in blue pencil at opposite corner of rpd. Rare [Attributes: Hard Cover]
