Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1937., 1937. First U.S. edition. Light foxing to top and fore-edges, else fine, bright copy in a striking dust jacket with light wear to head of spine, lightly rubbed at the corners, and lightly soiled on the spine and rear panels. Blood on the drawing room floor and the disappearance of Hazel Deerhurst, a woman who was the secretary to a man whose secrets involved the future of the British empire. Additionally, her husband who has just been released from jail, is found along the road dead, apparently a hit-and-run victim. However a bruise on his head proves to have been done prior to the accident. Detective Inspector Dornfell and his assistant, Wendover are called to investigate. One of the clues is a braille typewriter which is integral to Hazel's disappearance. A sharp copy of an elusive title. BARZUN & TAYLOR 891.
