Half title. Three-quarter morocco and boards, raised bands, spine gilt. Ex-lib. with stamped institutional label on front pastedown. Neat ownership inkstamp of collector Raymond C. Celli on front pastedown and titlepage. Contents free of markings. Joints and extremities a bit worn, mild foxing (images rarely affected). Very good plus. An extraordinary collection of large engraved plates relating to the antiquities of Italy, including maps, architectural and landscape views (including an aquatint of the Fiesolana Wall), and art and artifacts, including relief sculptures, painted vases, coins, and amulets. Several plates of murals are hand colored, and several otherwise uncolored plates include keys for coloring. The compiler and publisher, Giuseppe Micali (1768-1844), was an Italian historian and archaeologist. A scarce volume.
