Houghton Mifflin Co.. 1931.. Color pictographic / pictorial map 22 1/4 x 37 1/4 inches on sheet 22 3/4 x 37 3/4 inches, folded as issued to 9 1/2 x 12 into color pictorial envelope. Mint condition. A beautiful map of Chicago by Chicago illustrator Charles Turzak, published two years before the Chicago World's Fair and designed to draw the crowds to the "Youthful City of the Big Shoulders." Design elements (planes, boats, lively and exotic creatures in the lake) and the "Five Gay Colors" draw the eye in and across the panoramic view of the city by the lake, with the World's Fair grounds in the foreground. This map is featured in R. Holland's book "Chicago in Maps" pages 194-198. .
