The Devil's Wind
G. P. Putnam's Sons New York 1912 - First Edition. Wentworth's extremely scarce third novel, a work of intrigue and adventure set during the Indian Mutiny of 1857 in which an English couple escapes from the massacre at Cawnpore to the Indian countryside. Wentworth, best known for her mystery novels and series character Miss Silver, began her literary career with three romances before turning to the mystery genre. This title is the third such romance: the second work published in 1911, Little More Than Kin, is absent from any current catalogue of her works. This volume unique for retaining the original publisher's decorative and printed dustjacket. An extremely uncommon Wentworth title to be found thus. Near Fine in Good dustjacket, front panel edges showing wear, spine ends and flap corners with less than centimeter deep chipping, nickel sized chip at top front panel, small chip at mid-rear spine edge, lower rear panel fairly evenly chipped perhaps a half centimeter deep. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
