Mumtaz Mahal, Original Miniature Painting on Ivory, Circa 1860
Delhi or Agra 1860 - A good mid nineteenth century Delhi School miniature painting on ivory of Mumtaz Mahal, 3rd wife of Moghul Emperor Shah Jehan for whose mausoleum he built the Taj Mahal. The miniature is in good condition with very bright colours and shows Mumtaz Mahal in a characteristic pose with a rose in her right hand and wearing an ornate headdress. It is contained in an elaborate contemporary frame which is gilded (possibly on a base of silver), brooch fitting to the reverse.
