Of the 14 maps/plans/charts called for, 10 are present (some show tears and splitting to the folds), 2 others are mainly torn away. All maps show age-related tanning, some stains, edge wear. Full, early dark brown leather with a partial leather title label on the spine, gilt line decorations across the spine. Wear to cover corners, edges. Lacking the front flyleaf; the title-page, preface & p. [1] shows the ink signature of Griffith M. Cooper, and with this ink note on the top of the preface: This Book is the Property of Charles Wilkins Bought at Griffith M Coopers Vendue on the 22nd of March Eighteen Hundred and twenty four. The title-page, preface and upper margins of some front & back pages show a water stain; tanning, stains & wear are present, and several wild plant specimens are still pressed in this copy, as if it was used out in the field. With the bookplate of Cleveland, Ohio based book collector, William G. Mather (1857-1951), on the front paste-down endpaper. The maps in this copy require proper restoration. Howes E-94, p. 184.
