Dornbusch/ Military Bibliography of the Civil War II: 1136; Howes/ U.S.iana N 33; Eicher/ Civil War in Books 285; Krick/ Neale Books 347. Spine browned, covers soiled, spine & lower cover partially mottled, top edge dusty. The author served under Chew in "Chew's Battery," which eventually became part of the famous Laurel Brigade under Stonewall Jackson's command. The narrative is based on Neese's war-time journal & is described by Robert Krick as "one of the scarcest and most desireable of Neale books dealing with the Civil War."
