Baltimore: Commercial Ptg. & Sta. Co., 1917. First edition. Hardcover. About Very good. This copy Inscribed, Signed & Dated in ink in the year of publication at the first blank page by the author. 12mo, 22 pages, frontis &1 plate. Contemporary three-quarter maroon roan & marbled paper over boards lettered in gilt on the spine. Dornbusch/ Military Bibliography of the Civil War II: 3092. One inch loss at the top of the spine, lightly rubbed, modest foxing, previous owner's signature in ink at rear blank. J. Ogden Murray's copy, himself a captured Confederate officer & author of The Immortal Six Hundred, with his signature at a rear blank page. Shepherd was the youngest commissioned officer in the armies of the Confederacy. He was severely wounded & captured at Gettysburg in July, 1863 & held as a prisoner until the close of the war. OCLC locates three copies under two accession numbers.
