Astronomy explained upon Sir Isaac Newton's principles
Printed for the Author, London 1757 - Second edition in full 'contemporary style' calf with 5 raised bands and gilt title in morocco label. Possibly a mid-20th century binding? Blind stamped double line decoration around board edges. Binding in very good condition with just a little rubbing to edges and outer hinge area to front board very slightly cracked. Light creasing to a few pages and a little in-text notes on 4 pages, the most extensive shown in the accompanying photographs. Folding Frontis engraving of a Ferguson Orrery. The title page has a repaired area along the top edge, using old laid paper, to replace a torn out section removing most of a previous owners name. 13 folding plates as called for, all in very good condition. Some have minor repaired areas but not affecting the engravings. Plate III and VII have a some trimming to the margin area. A little browning and marginal offset to prelims. A line of manuscript text along top edge of rear free end paper. Very attractive copy. Pp. frontis, [8], 283, [9]. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
