POEMS: SECOND SERIES. Edited by Two of Her Friends T.W. Higginson and Mabel Loomis Todd.
Boston Roberts Brothers 1892 - FIRST EDITION, Fourth Printing (one of 500 copies only) Facsimile of the manuscript copy of "Renunciation" in the author's hand at the beginning of the volume. 8vo, publisher's original light green cloth, the upper cover and spine beautifully decorated and printed in gilt with pictorial designs. [viii], 234 pp. An unusually well preserved and fine copy, bright, clean and very attractive. AN UNCOMMONLY FRESH COPY AND ESPECIALLY SO AS FINE COPIES OF THIS IMPORTANT WORK WERE PUBLISHED IN VERY LIMITED NUMBERS. Despite the contemporary objections to their style, the introspection, imagination, and simple beauty of Dickinson's poems won her a quick, wide, and enduring audience. Were it not for the editorial supervision of Todd and Higginson, Dickinson might not have been published. Though seven of her poems were published in magazines during her lifetime, this posthumous volume represents the first published collection of her work. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
