The Japan Punch (October, 1876)
Yokohama 1876 - [Important Early English Language Satirical Periodical Published in Meiji Japan]. Newspaper type format (9 3/4+ x 14 1/4 in - 25.1 x 33.6 cm), October, 1876, string tied, woodblock printed on good quality paper paper, illustrated cover and 10 pages with no back cover. The month of October is handwritten rather than printed. Numerous satirical drawings with commentaries by Wirgman relevant to foreign residents in Meiji Japan. ~ Condition. The periodical is in Very Good condition. The string ties are present but loose. The pages are clean and free of staining, foxing and toning. The paper is supple. There is insect damage internally (worm hole appearing areas). However, they don't detract from the overall appearance. Considering the transitory nature of this publication, a remarkably well preserved copy. ~~ More information, to include digital pictures, available on request.
