A Suitable Boy
Sixth Chamber Press, London 1993 - London: Sixth Chamber Press, 1993. First Edition, First Printing. As new. This copy of the Sixth Chamber Press edition is letter "Y" of the 26 copies lettered A-Z, bound in full leather and with a signed unique holograph quotation from the book. The quotation in this copy is the very first sentence of the book, which starts with a "Y": "'You too will marry a boy I choose,' said Mrs Rupa Mehra firmly to her daughter." This is thus the most desirable copy of a highly popular, complex and moving novel. In contrast to Seth's rewarding beauty of language, his publisher Anthony Cheetham called the 1993 Booker judges (Gowrie, Beer, Chisholm, Clee and Todd) a "bunch of wankers" for not shortlisting the book - a crude comment, though we find it entirely appropriate. CHF 3'250. This item is part of our Catalogue 5: 100 Key Books, a copy of which you can order from us at YGRbooks. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
