Mehalah ~ A Story of the Salt Marshes
Frank F. Lovell & Co., New York 1889 - 5" x 7 1/8", blue cloth with debossed titling and decorative details in silver and gilt to front board and spine, 415 pp. + 4 p. ads. Rare. An exceptional copy of this truly rare title by Sabine Baring-Gould (1834-1924), prolific writer, composer of hymns (most notably for 'Onward Christian Soldiers'), and folklorist ('The Book of Were-Wolves', 1865). Searches of WorldCat, etc. reveal no copies either in any library worldwide or offered for sale (nor any sale record in the past 20 years). This a Very Good or better copy, with only light bumping, wear and rounding to the spine ends, spine very lightly dulled and rubbed, back board with a few minor edge bumps, corner tips lightly rubbed, and, internally, mild age-toning to leaves. Otherwise Fine with a firm and square binding, no writing or other marks. See both photos enlarged. Ships in a box with padding. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
