New York: Covici-Friede 1930 - Number 64 of 75 copies on Crane's Olde Style paper; signed by Rockwell Kent. Two Volumes, folio; 10 1/4 inches x 15 1/4 in., half-title; frontispiece; title-page and frontispiece printed in tan and black; dedication page; contents. [8]pp., pp. [1]-[250]. Vol. 2: half-title; title-page; contents; second half-title. [8]pp., pp. 251-[530] + numbered & signed colophon page. The 25 full-page illustrations are printed in tan and black; head & tail-pieces in black. Printed in double columns with Chaucer's text & the Van Wyck translation. Bound in full, brown textured leather, with five raised bands on the spines, and blindstamped titling and designs on the spines and front covers, deckle-edged paper with the top-edges trimmed and gilt. The spines show a little darkening to the leather, the spine ends, raised bands and spine surfaces show some rubs to the leather. Overall, a near fine to fine set of the edition limited to 75 copies. With the bookplates of Cleveland, Ohio based book collector, William G. Mather (1857-1951), on the front paste-downs. Colophon: "Here is ended the Book of the Tales of Canterbury, written by Geoffrey Chaucer, translated into Modern English by William Van Wyck, illustrated by Rockwell Kent, the book designed and printed by Samuel Aiwaz Jacobs at The Stratford Press, the illustrations reproduced by the Knudsen Process, the paper furnished by Whitehead and Alliger. The edition consists of seventy-five copies on Crane's Olde Book, numbered 1 to 75; and nine hundred and twenty-four copies on Worthy Number Two Rag, numbered 76 to 999. Each copy is signed by the artist. This is number 64 [signed]: Rockwell Kent." The portfolio of prints is not present. Weight: 12 lbs. Postage is extra on this item.
