Modern Fine Printing an Exhibit of printing issued in England, the United States of America, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Czech-Slovakia, Holland and Sweden during the Twentieth Century and with few exceptions since the outbreak of the war.
London, Ernest Benn, Limited. Number 192 of 650 copies in English (of a total of 1000 of the ordinary edition). Printed by Walter Lewis at the University Press, Cmbridge 1925 - [Partial Limitation Statement]: "The text of the English and German editions is composed in the roman type made by Francesco Griffo for Aldus Manutius originally used in the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili and now reproduced by the Lanston Monotype Corporation, London [-] The collotypes are by Messrs Jacomet, Paris. The paper [-] for the ordinary edition by Messrs Lafuma, Paris, and by Spalding and Hodge, London. The binding of the ordinary editions is by Messrs Straker & Son, Smith Brothers, London". 13 1/2 inches x 18 3/4 in., halftitle with numbered limitation page on the reverse; title-page. lxiv; followed by the 328 various sized reproductions of printing, some are more than one to a page, printed on a tan background, in red & black, some with illustrations, some with color details, etc.; index + printer's page. A number of loose, onionskin type paper tissue guards are present(these show age-related tanning). Printed, loose advertisement leaf for the Second Series is present. Tan, textured cloth spine, sides and cover fore-edges with titling in black on the spine, and black cloth on the central covers, with a printed cloth title label on the front cover; thick, cream paper, printed dustjacket. The binding cloth shows some light tan spotting, tan spotting (scattered foxing) present to endpapers, prelims., to some page margins, book edges. The dustjacket shows chipping away of the paper at the spine ends, chipping, with some splits to the paper margins, edges, dusting. With the bookplate of Cleveland, Ohio based book collector, William G. Mather (1857-1951), on the front paste-down endpaper. A much better than average copy of this heavy book which is very prone to wear. Weight: 9 1/2 lbs. Postage is extra on this item. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
