Oxford, Printed by John Johnson at the Clarendon Press,, 1925–52. Edited by C. H. Herford and Percy Simpson. 11 volumes (including the supplement), large octavo (223 × 143 mm). Finely bound in recent full brown morocco, tan and green morocco labels, raised bands, centre tools to spines gilt, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, others uncut. Frontispieces to each volume and a huge number of facsimiles and other illustrations of early texts, title pages and so forth. A fine set. First printings, special issues on handmade paper. Volumes I and II are limited to just 56 copies; the remainder have no formal statement of limitation but are in the same format and are just as seldom seen, so one may assume the numbers produced to be similarly small. "The gradual modern recovery of Jonson has built upon the monumental labours of his Oxford editors, C. H. Herford and Percy and Evelyn Simpson" (ODNB). John Johnson's press work is exemplary.
