A Time To Keep Silence
London: Queen Anne Press 1953.. True First Edition, limited to 500 copies of which this is number 379, in the scarce dust-jacket. Slim octavo, pp.cvii; 92; [1], imprint. With colour frontispiece and other designs by Robert Harling. Bound in black buckram with publisher's monogram blocked in gilt to covers, red morocco title label to spine, top edge tinted red, others untrimmed. No inscriptions, leather label a little worn, binding lightly marked, jacket clean and fresh with a small nick and light wear to fore-edge joint. A lovely example; rare in jacket. A chronicle of the acclaimed travel writer's visits to a number of monastries across Europe; it was published under the stewardship of Ian Fleming, whose first James Bond novel appeared two months later. The suave secret agent was based in part on Patrick Leigh Fermor.
