A foreshadowing of 21st century art: the color and geometry of very early Turkish carpets
New York: Oxford University Press, 1993. First edition, 4to, pp. 351; fine in limp gilded cloth with brocade pattern; acetate dust jacket with closed tear near top and small chip at fold of front flap; 600 illustrations, 98 in color, of carpets from the 13th through 15th centuries. Volume 7 of an 11 volume series that sets forth a general theory of pattern and architecture. This book introduces "the first coherent theory of structure of carpet design." "One of the most idiosynchratic carpet books ever published," it has split opinion within the textile world, with some calling it "infuriating," and others attesting to the value of its theories beyond that of textile appraisal. (HALI, 74, 78).
