The Discontented Little Elephant
Longmans, Green & Co, London 1912 - 1st edition. 1st printing. 'Presentation Copy' is lightly impressed in tiny letters to the top of title page and there is a short name and address and "from the editor of the Sussex County Herald" lightly written on the paste-down end-paper. There is very pale offset shading to front and back feps - the front ep has a couple of very light creases. No foxing. No scribbles. There are some short or tiny tears and little nicks to bottom edges of pages. Corners are rubbed but binding is firm and the inlaid picture to front cover of grey card has one or two chips. Somerville, with her friend "Martin" Ross, were the authors of many books (The Real Charlotte, Reminiscences of an Irish R. M., Slipper's ABC of Foxhunting, etc.) "The Discontented Little Elephant" would appear to be Somerville's rarest book, a robust moral tale for children with stronger stomachs than they do nowadays! [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
