Both volumes have been professionally rebacked with the original cloth laid over, and new headbands. Pale green decorative cloth with faded edges and spines. (see photos) The first 50 pages, including the title page, of volume one have moisture evidence at the bottoms of the pages. The rest of the text is unremarkable. Wakefield, 1820-1879, arrived in New Zealand in August,1839. as an agent and explorer for the New Zealand Company, and was responsible for exploring and purchasing land in the Wanganui area. He was also a supporter of British colonisation of the islands and had entered into local and regional politics by 1853. His father, Edward Gibbon Wakefield, was a British politician,and the driving force behind much of the early colonisation of South Australia, and later New Zealand. . First Edition. 8vo.
