Announcement of the Establishment of the Jewish State in the German language newspaper, Yedioth Hayom
Newspaper, Yedioth Hayom, in German, published by Dr. F. Reichenstein, Tel-Aviv, May 16, 1948, two pages front and verso, with headline announcing Errichtung Des Judenstaates, "Establishment of the Jewish State". Toning with small chips and tears. Good condition. The publisher, Freiderick Reichenstein, a German Jew, was born at the beginning of the 20th Century in Bottrop, located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.He studied law and began a legal career in North Rhine-Westphalia when the Nazi expelled all Jews from the law courts in 1935. He fled to Palestine and established a German language newspaper in Tel Aviv from 1936 - 1964. In his memoirs, Dr. Reichenstein wrote, "As the editor of a German language newspaper I had to contend with the anger of Jews in Palestine at anything German...I am an optimist: I survived the First World War, the rise of Nazi to power in Germany, the Second World War, wars between Israel and her neighbors. I married and have three children. I still believe in Hope.
