Honigerum .. ; cum gemino indice rerum ac verborum locupl. 2 volumes, complete set, SECOND EDITIONS 1577, printer and date from colophons, at head of title page in Volume I is "Pars I", "Pars 2" at head of title page in Volume II, Latin text, 8vos, approximately 160 x 95 mm, 6½ x 4 inches, large printer's pictorial device on final blank page of each volume, a few historiated initials, pages: Volume I, (88), 1 - 509, (3), prelims include Epistola and index, collation:a - e8, ?4, A - II8; Volume II, (2 of 8), 1 - 728, (24) - index, LACKING 8 PRELIM LEAVES INCLUDING TITLE PAGE, title page now supplied in reasonable facsimile, collation: ):(8 ( - ):(1 - 8), Aa - Zz8, aa - Aaa8, bound in full modern blind panelled speckled calf, gilt raised bands to spine, richly gilt in compartments, contrasting gilt lettered morocco labels, edges speckled red, new endpapers, housed in sturdy custom made cloth bound slipcase. Volume I: title page faintly foxed in margins, 2 names in margin, 1 crossed out, slightly chipped at inner margin and now laid down on paper to strengthen, a few faint neat ink notes and occasional mild underlining, faint small pale damp stain to a few upper margins, 2 small closed tears to margin of final page with printer's device, the leaf now laid down on paper to strengthen; Volume II: slight faint foxing to margins of first 2 leaves of text, faint pale damp stain to inner margin and part of text on A6, A7, B6 and B7, a few tiny ink stars to margins, one or two underlinings, final leaf with printer's device faintly foxed. A very good clean sturdy set in slip case. The work was based on several important contemporary Italian works, and probably also on Turkish sources. Volume I was translated from Geuffroy's French into Latin by Antonio Godelaevus, and contains a history of the Turkish Court, with descriptions of contemporary life, including perhaps the first transcription of the Muslim call to prayer...
