FOLKESTONE, KENT. Drawn and Engraved by William Daniell.
Published by W. Daniell, Cleveland Street, Fitzroy Square, London, August 1st. 1823 - Aquatint and etching in original hand colouring. 9 x 12 ins. Framed and glazed in conservation mount and backing, in a classic gilt moulding. A very good example. Published as part of Daniell's monumental ten-year 'Voyage Round the Coast of Great Britain' which he completed in 1825. It contained 308 highly finished hand-coloured aquatint plates, which were issued in parts between 1814 and 1825. In this fine Arcadian view of Folkestone from the East Cliff, the sheep stare over the newly-completed harbour and the fishermen's houses, dominated by the parish church on the cliff above. Such is the skill of Daniell's engraving that the view can almost be mistaken for a watercolour. PRINTS/MAPS FOLKESTONE PRINTS/MAPS
