Owned by FDR! Maggie & Jiggs original artwork on an envelope sent to him by cartoonist George McManus ? from FDR?s own ?Bouquets & Brickbrats? collection, exhibited in 1946
Envelope addressed in block letters by cartoonist George McManus (1884-1954) to ?His Excellency; Franklin D. Roosevelt, / The President of the United States, / The White House - / Washington, D.C. / Personal.? 7.5? x 3.75?. Pair of 3ยข George Washington stamps affixed, postmarked Los Angeles, June 8, 1938. Back flap has printed return address of McManus at King Features Syndicate, Hollywood. In the upper left corner, 1.25? x 1?, McManus has drawn and colored head shots of Maggie and Jiggs, the two main characters of his popular comic strip, ?Bringing Up Father? which ran for 87 years, from 1913 to 2000. After McManus died in 1954, the strip continued with other artists.Affixed onto a vintage original White Ace stamp album page with an FDR photograph at top left, headed ?Franklin Delano Roosevelt / Postage Stamp Issues.?In 1946, auctioneers H.R. Harmer Inc. sold the entire valuable stamp collection of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Our own John Reznikoff knew Berna
