Small 8vo journal. Unpaginated. About 200 pages of manuscript entries The Torr Head was a twin screw steamer launched at Belfast in 1894. She was sunk by a German U Boar in 1917. Loughridge provides a very close record of life at sea and of the specifics of managing vessel, cargo, and passengers - "The 'landlubber' has got it into his novel-crammed brain that the Bay of Biscay is a wild tumultuous waste of raving roaring billows..." He has illustrated his journal with pen and ink drawings, watercolors, and three tipped in photographs (the photos are faded almost beyond recognition). The drawings and watercolors spice up what is already a lively narrative. He also gives an excellent account of his time in "sunbaked Brisbane." Clean and legible
