FIRST EDITION 1593 (printer identified by ESTC). Small 4to, approximately 185 x 135 mm, 7¼ x 5¼ inches, 3 engraved folding maps, Middlesex with some hand colour to borders; City of London; and map of Westminster. Engraved coat of arms of Queen Elizabeth on A2 verso and Anglo-Saxon alphabet on A4 verso, engraved title page by Pieter Vanden Keere, historiated initials, woodcut arms in the text, pages: [8], 1-48, [1], signatures: [A]4, B-G4, H2, lacks final leaf of verses and errata, bound in full calf, gilt lettering and rules to spine, gilt rule and blind decoration to edges of covers, marbled endpapers, book-plate of Dogmersfield Library on first pastedown. Trimmed copy, binding slightly rubbed, small chip to head of spine, light scratching and cracking to surface leather of covers, corners slightly worn, folding map of London has some damage to edges with slight loss to image and text, laid down and inserted out of order at the beginning of the book, title page slightly dusty, old ink name to top of title page, the map of Middlesex has 2 tiny wormholes with small neat repair to the blank side and to the foot of the fold, slight loss to one letter, the map of Westminster has been mounted on a stub and reinserted, the 2 outer margins trimmed, just touching borders, 2 small neat repairs to blank side and to the lower margin, no loss, pale staining to the edges. Occasional pale staining to margins of text, occasional dusty mark to lower corners, pale staining running into text on a few pages, some pale brown staining to inner margins, occasional small brown spot, last page has inner margin neatly repaired, binding slightly sprung, otherwise a good copy.
