An illustrated history of Royal Newmarket, the centre of horse racing in Britain from 'Early Days' to the time of 'George VI' written by R. C. Lyle and with forty-one plates, some in colourby Lionel Edwards. First edition. With an introduction by Adair Dighton who completed the work posthumously for Lyle. Lionel Edwards (1878 - 1966) was a British artist who specialised in painting horses and other aspects of British country life. He is best known for his hunting scenes but also painted pictures of horse racing, shooting and fishing. He provided illustrations for Country Life, The Sphere, The Graphic and numerous books. Condition: In a cloth binding. Externally, smart but with slight wear to extremities and the odd mark to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Bright and clean throughout with only the odd spot to endpapers. Overall: NEAR FINE.
