London, E. Gambart, 1856.. Folio (385x290 mm). Pp. vii, 53. Plus 12 plates printed in fine mezzotint, each with facing tissue guard. Plate mark 270x205 mm, image size 240x160 mm, printed on thick paper. With engraved figures to text. Half-title present. Hardcover, bound in the original publisher's full brown cloth, gilt lettering within large ornate centerpiece heavily embossed in gilt on upper cover, sides blind ruled, bit worn in places, inner hinges cracked. Foxed, else in good condition, preserved entirely in the original state. ~ First edition with all the fine mezzotint plates published May 7th, 1856. Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851), a Romantic landscape painter and printmaker; Thomas Goff Lupton (1791-1873), a mezzotint engraver who engraved many works by Turner; John Ruskin (1819-1900), an art critic and patron..
