Dedicated to Napoleon, this ambitious treatise uses a history of maritime and commercial law as the basis for a set of general principles. It is also useful for its overview of these subjects during the early phase of the Napoleonic era. His dedication indicates a keen desire for a commission to produce a commercial code for the Kingdom of Italy, the north-Italian puppet state established by Napoleon.
